Haiku and Tanka

Haiku

Weeping Willow

Old man willow tree
Gnarled and bent, bitter roots….
Crying in summer.

Crushing Time

Geese on the cane bins
Drunken lorikeets stagger….
Crushing time again.

Winter

Crisp, frosty morning
Fresh fallen snow … white blanket
In bed I snuggle.

Tanka

Weeping Willow

Old man willow tree
Gnarled and bent, bitter roots……
Crying in summer,
Mourns for ages long since gone
When forests ruled the land.

Cut, rip, and woodchip,
Plant the wheat and sugar cane,
Clear the old forests.
Climate changes….. desert creeps
Where forests ruled the land.

Sun rises – new dawn
A last chance…. please don’t waste it.
World Heritage Lists
Lead the way to preserve places
Where forests still rule the land

Old man willow tree
Gnarled and bent, bitter roots……
Crying in winter,
Looks to ages still to come
When forests will rule the land.

Regrets

The tiny baby
That made my heart ache with love
Only yesterday …
Has just left home for ever.
How did I miss him grow up?

Tempest

Storm clouds gathering
Dark, menacing, alive with
Raw power… Thor’s fist
Cruel wind, sadistic rain,
In fear I cower…. Thor laughs.
